Meet the Custom Artists of the Imagination Gala

Each year, custom Vinylmation artists from around the country descend upon Epcot to showcase their work and meet with fans at Disney's yearly trading event. This year we are keeping an updated post on artists you can meet at the event and some of their work you should look out for. As well as any other special offers, sales or giveaways they have to offer.

Here are some of the artists you can meet and how to contact them. (artists are listed in no particular order) You can also hear some of them interviewed on podcast Episode 167.

Josh Edwards
Crazy4Vinyls

Josh has a Vinylmation Exchange Bid Wars auction going on for his 8 custom Disney Character Haunted Mansion series. These will be sold by the Gala, but on display and available for pick-up by the winning bidders.

He will also have a Figment series on display. These are already sold, but show off his wonderful talent to re-imagine characters into new roles.

And, maybe most exciting for fans, Josh will be giving away 1 custom golden Vinylmation each day he is at WDW. So make sure you follow him on Facebook. He will be giving away his location and what shirt he is wearing each day, and if you find him first, you get the custom!

Every trade event, Heather has a table full of amazing customs on display... and she always pulls out all the stops for the big event in September. Look for her table full of goodies. If you see Star Wars customs, you are probably at the right spot.

She also often offers event exclusive customs, and this year is no different. She has just a couple spots left to ORDER her Imagination Gala 3" Gold Custom event exclusive. Pick it up at the Gala or she's offering free shipping to those not attending. Order through her Facebook link above.

JenBednarski

Here are a few words from Jennifer:

"This fall I am excited to be celebrating the one year anniversary of Vinylmation Creations of Jen Bednarski. It's been a wild ride from trying my hand at a swap last summer to working nearly full-time, on commissions, this year. Since a very young age, I've loved art and any form of crafting. It's not lost upon me that many of the skills I've tried throughout the years have come together in my custom work. Being able to attend the Imagination Gala will be a dream come true! I am so excited to meet many of the other talented people working on this platform as well as all the awesome collectors. So much of what makes this art form great is the wonderful supportive community. Throughout the year, I have drawn strength and renewed creative energy from their kind and encouraging words. To show my appreciation, I have made a small custom series celebrating the gala theme. 5 golden designs featuring Mickey & some of Disney's finest ladies, dressed up for the big event. In the days following the Imagination Gala, I will be giving away a custom each day from, the different parks I'm attending, to the first person who can find me. Details will be posted at my artist page on Facebook."

Kathlene Evans

I’ve been painting customs for just over a year now. I have a degree in animation so it’s safe to say art has always been an important part of my life. I have always been a huge Disney fan as well! I found out about Vinylmations through the Facebook trading groups and that’s how I eventually got involved with painting them. I will say it was a bit of a challenge at first, painting on a curved 3d canvas, but now that has become my favorite part-figuring out how to fit a character creatively on that 3d canvas. I have had so much fun with this as it pairs two of my favorite things-Disney and painting! I love creating my own ideas and also commissions for other people. The ideas that people can come up with are incredible and I love being able to help bring those ideas to life! Disney has always been an inspiration for my artwork and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to continue painting these and the friendships I’ve made so far! This will be my first big trade event and I’m quite excited to meet everyone!!

(not appearing at the Gala)

I want to share this recent Figment due to the fact that the Imagination Gala is coming up. It is based off of the original attraction and depicts Figment as an artist using colors of the rainbow to illuminate the white atmosphere into a colorful work of art.  I used Swarovski crystals in the pot of colors to replicate the rainbow effect, as Disney buffs know the pavilion was originally supposed to be a mineral and crystal themed pavilion , hence the pyramid shaped building.  If you are interested in custom vinyls you can contact me through my website. Park 14 Explained

Park 14 Explained
Release Date: August 15, 2014
D-Streets and Online
$12.95

Update 08/18/14 Another Variant added.

Another variant in the Park 14 set is a WEDWay Peoplemover version (figure on the left)! This is brilliant and the perfect nod to WDW history. The attraction was known as the WEDWay Peoplemover from 1975-1994 when it was changed to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. In a wonderful move, Disney brought back the word Peoplemover to the attraction's name in 2009 making the current name the TTA Peoplemover.

Update 08/16/14 Chaser and Variant added.

The Chaser is Esmeralda the Fortune Teller. Good choice for a chaser as it is obscure and a special piece of Disneyland.

One of the variants found in this series is a rescued Iguanadon! As opposed to the normal version, with comets streaking in his ears, this one is safe back at the Dino Institute, as noted by the amazing logo in the ears. It also seems to have a slightly different shade of green.

07/15/14

This is my favorite Park series since the move from 12 to 8 figure. Lot's of strong entries here including two I have been waiting for forever... Soarin' and Peoplemover. They are done so expertly, they have been well worth the wait. Then we get one I never imagined we would, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, which just may be one of my favorite park designs ever. This set is special because if features the very first Disney produced Vinylmation by a good friend of mine and the podcasts. Anne Marie has contributed a wonderful Owl from America Sings to this set. I never had the opportunity to view this attraction in person, but I know it holds a special place in her heart... and that love shows in the attention to detail here. Including a wonderful surprise touch on the back. I see Iguanodon as an under performing design, if only because it's recognition level is so low to me. Lastly, the Grizzly Gulch Bears are a cute design, but characters and a land I am unfamiliar with.

Grizzly Gulch
Hong Kong Disneyland

A themed land featuring a roller coaster and real bears. I don't know much about this land, but the design is adorable.

Iguanodon
Dinosaur (Animal Kingdom)

The Dinosaur you go back in time to save. A nice design, but I wouldn't have recognized the design as this character.

Ollie the Owl
America Sings (Disneyland)

Ollie is an owl who co-hosted the now-extinct attraction. He would change his outfits depending on the era that he was in. Best feature is the "Pop Goes the Weasel" drawn on the back. This is the first Vinylmation design by Anne Marie.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
Disney's Hollywood Studios

Wow, a lot going on here, but it all fits so well on the platform and really conveys the chaotic nature of the ride. Use of clear, crazy track, car fit on the head and street signs... my favorite figure in this set.

Soarin'
Epcot

Finally. I've been waiting for this one, and it doesn't disappoint. Lin  took a great approach with the dangling feet and the multiple scenes depicted on the feet, body and arms.

People Mover
Magic Kingdom

I've always wanted this one, but was not sure how an artist could make it interesting... Caley did a wonderful job. I love the people on the ride and logos and the color scheme pulls it all together.

Be Our Guest Gargoyle
Magic Kingdom

Very interesting choice... not complaining. Great design. Arms might have stained glass reference?

Esmeralda the Fortune Teller
Mystery Chaser
Disneyland

Esmeralda is a Fortune Telling machine located at the Penny Arcade on Main Street USA at Disneyland. For 25 cents, you can get a fortune. The artwork on this figure is beautiful.

Marvel 2 Spider-Man Explained

Marvel 2 Spider-Man Explained
August 29, 2014
D-Streets and Online
Artist: Thomas Scott

This explained page written by Brendt Mendelblatt

A 12 figure blind box set exclusively featuring Spider-Man, his enemies, allies, and frenemies throughout his illustrious comic book career.  (Note: none of these figures take on the likenesses from either generation of movies)

Peter Parker / Spider-Man

We got his Future Foundation white suit in Series 1, but here we have his classic outfit that we all know and love. An absolutely amazing design, and I love how he has webs in the ears. The skyscrapers also look amazing. A Symbiote “black suit” variant would be a no brainer.

Felicia Hardy / Black Cat

A sometimes ally/sometimes enemy of Spider-Man, this design suffers the same problems that Black Widow had in Series 1, where it just looks a little awkward on the platform.

Norman Osborn/
Green Goblin

Arguably, Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis. This one is one of my favorite designs, just because he looks so accurate, but no pumpkin bomb accessory, really?!

J. Jonah Jameson

Peter Parker’s boss at The Daily Bugle who forces him to take pictures of the hero just to slander him all over the papers. This is an absolutely perfect representation in my opinion. The “friend or foe” headline in the ear is amazing!

Sergei Kravinoff /
Kraven the Hunter

Another member of the Sinister Six. His fur coat looks great on the platform.

Curt Connors / The Lizard

Great addition in the set, the face looks fantastic and I love the slime dripping from the ears. The lab coat looks a little awkward in the back.

Quentin Beck / Mysterio

Wow!! I love that we have both the “fishbowl” and a cape on this figure. Perfect!! Love the smoke in the ears too. This “Sinister Six” member looks fantastic.

Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich / Rhino

Probably best known for getting butchered by Paul Giamatti this summer. I love the horn popping off of the vinyl, and the ears are a nice continuation from the first series.

Eddie Brock / Venom

Although he is a relatively newer villain, he has grown in popularity and is one of Spider-Man’s most recognized villains. His face and tongue look amazing!

Max Dillon / Electro

Wow, how the newest movie has made me miss this classic look of Electro. Another Sinister Six member, this is another great addition to the set.

Mary Jane Watson

“Face it Tiger… you just hit the jackpot!” Although she isn’t Peter’s first girlfriend, she’s by far the most recognizable love interest in both Spider-Man, as well as the entire Marvel Universe. Love the Spider-Man shirt she’s wearing. There are many variant possibilities that could go with this one.

Mystery Chaser

Really, the only two guesses I have would be a Peter Parker out of his suit, or a Doctor Octopus (with hopefully tentacles coming off of his back). Side note: is there really no Doc Oc in here?!

Spotlight On: JChad's Latest Monorail Custom

It is your chance to pick up a custom made-to-order Vinylmation by JChad. Just in time for Haunted Mansion's 45th anniversary, JChad has put a haunting twist on his popular Monorail 9" customs. Here he is, in his own words:

"I was inspired by the original poster for the attraction and have the ghosts successful at hitching a ride on the monorail. I did do the Walt Disney World version monorail, its the best of both worlds.  The tombstone on the back was left blank for the lucky owner to come up with something and I filled it in, for it is never too early to choose a tombstone."

"Hope you enjoy and thank you to all those who have supported my work." - JChad

Requests for customs are being taken through his website:
