Spotlight On: Aaralyn's Tick Tock

Aaralyn is back and this time she created this cool Tick Tock from Peter Pan! We got her to talk a little about this figure. Make sure you take a close look at Tick's stomach, there's more then meets the eye there.

"I wanted to share a recent custom of mine that breaks away from the cuteness of my traditional style. A few friends of mine have been pushing me to try something different and with the recent re-release of Peter Pan, I decided to make one of my favorite characters from the movie.

Disney has a great talent for giving characters personality, even when those characters don't speak, and I believe Tick-Tock falls into this category. One of my favorite scenes from the movie is when Smee is shaving Captain Hook (or the seagull rather) and Tick-Tock comes along. After Smee scolds him, he pouts before turning around and leaving. This clip from the movie was my main inspiration for this piece.

I added quite a few elements to this custom that I have never attempted before, which made this custom one of my most challenging. The first challenge I faced was cutting a hole in the body of the custom. After, I had to figure out how I wanted Tick-Tock's face to fit on the mold and I spent a lot of time focused on his face. Somewhere in the process I decided to add a painted canvas background to his case, to give the custom more depth.

The last part of the process was installing the sound, working pocket-watch, and scenery inside the custom, then protecting it all with a piece of plexiglass. While the sound is installed inside the custom, the button to activate it can be pushed while Tick-Tock is sitting in his case.

Cutesters in Paris?

According to Vinylmation Kingdom, the Cutesters en Vogue series will release in Disneyland Paris about a month before the March 29 US release date. They may also show up on the Disney Store UK online site. VK had this photo on their website:

The photo shows the side of the tray which confirms our assumption that the flower bouquet is in fact the chaser. See the whole lineup with variants here.

30 years of Tokyo Disneyland

Can you believe Tokyo Disneyland has been around for 30 years? That seems almost impossible. To celebrate they are getting three open box figures, that I have to admit, look pretty sweet. I really like the one with the Napoleonic Sea Captain with his telescope. Two great accessories. Each figure will be 1200 Yen and will probably be available near the celebration of the 30th. The first figure celebrates the grand opening of Tokyo Disney and he holds what looks to be a retro park guide. The sea captain represents the grand opening of Tokyo Disney Sea. While the third figure is celebration the 30th anniversary with a Mickey balloon accessory.

Diving for Eagles

Someone over at eBay must have had some time on his hands. And a pair of coveralls. It looks like we have another dumpster dive find. And while this one looks better then most, we still caution anyone from ever purchasing these "finds".

Now for the interesting part. It looks like Maria Clapsis is at it again with a great looking holiday figure. It seems like these regular figures are the reason we no longer see new editions of Holiday series. Labeled "Independence Day 2013", this piece looks perfect. I am totally going to get my dad one. I also enjoy the old school flag in the ears, one star for each of the original states in the union. Interesting fact: Did you know that originally when a state was added they added both a star AND a stripe. That got to be too much so they nixed the stripes, and just continued with the stars. We expect to see this in stores late May or early June, but that's just our speculation.

Funko Disney Pop! Vinyl Mystery Minis Blind Boxes

Updated 2/14/13 We learned some news from the NYC Toy Fair. Mystery Minis will be released on February 28, retail for $5.95 and be sold in cases of 24.

These are adorable. Today we learned that in March 2013, Funko will release a blind box series of Disney Pop! Vinyls. Just take a look...

They are smaller than the open window Pop! Vinyls... about 2-3 inches tall. There will be eight characters, each with three poses that will be seeded at various odds. Here is a look at the odds chart.

No price point yet. Not something I will try to complete, but I sure will pick up a few of these. I'd assume you will be able to find these at Disney Stores and online.
