San Diego Comic Con 2013 Vinylmation Explained

Check out all the news that has been flooding the web since the start of Comic Con. History seems to be repeating, as another sequel to a recalled series has been shown. Just as we had Whiskers & Tales after Furry Friends, we now seem to have a second Mask set after Disney recalled the first Mask set because of potentially offense artwork.

At Comic Con, Disney released a set of 8 Behind the Mask 2 figures all based on Disney characters (looks like they learned their lesson from Robots!).

There are 8 characters, and each one has a mask that can be taken off to reveal a different face underneath.
The figures in this set are The Evil Queen, Stitch, Dumbo, Jack Skellington, Madam Mim, Maleficent, Merlin, and Mickey.

On the first night, all 8 were available as a set. Then for the next four days, only 2 each will be available.

The packaging is kinda awesome. It took a while for me to see it, but there's a slit in the side where you can see the eyes of the character inside. Perfect!

"Weirdly, this evil characters in this set are exactly what I wanted for a set from Reflections Of Evil! Have the villains and their alter egos as vinylmation. So why does it happen at Comic Con? Who knows? Also, at the moment I think this series is better then anything we have for Reflections." -M.C.

Prep your Landing for Frankenweenie?

Looks like there's more today from SDCC, and Vinylmation Exchange is the place to find it. The first is a preview of the Prep and Landing Two Pack posted by Bryce Hamamoto. Check out the cool hats!

The second is another free giveaway, this time advertising the Frankenweenie movie. Now we saw the Wreck-It-Ralph freebie going for lots of money on eBay, I wonder if this figure will be as popular.

A tease of Pixar Series 1 Vinylmation

Over on the facebook page, Vinylmation Exchange, Daniel Jue posted this picture from comic con. It's the first look at the Pixar Series 1. We speculated on this when we saw the Carl and Ellie two pack and it's packaging made reference to it. It looks like MC was right and the series will be a normal 12 figure blind box series. (That's speculation at the moment, but the display with 3 loose characters seems to point to it.) This would make the Carl and Ellie figures the first LE from that series. Here's our breakdown.

	Nemo From: Finding Nemo Great use of clear.
	King Fergus From: Brave (2012) Another peg leg! (For the first one see the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides vinylmation)
	Dug From: UP Simple, but classic.

Let the speculation begin. Who else would you like for this series?

Possible Comic-Con Freebie Variant?

You might have seen this picture from a earlier post, but look below the Star Wars 2 set. What are those? They look like vinylmation! They are green and white and black. The colors sorta make them seem like Kermits wearing Mickey Ears.

We got the answer from Thomas Scott in a tweet today. He posted the above picture.
It looks like these will be a green variant of the Theme Park Favorite Classic Fan. Below is the Red version.

Comic Con Vinylmation Explained

Update: 7/10/12

Disney Store will release two (2) of these very limited-edition figures during each day of Comic Con. For the lucky few attending "Preview Day" tomorrow (Wednesday 7/11/12), the head chef will showcase his street side buffet you can purchase all eight (8) figures on the same day! Be sure to stop by the Funko booth (#4829/4928) to pick them up. Each figure retails for $10.00. 250/each available per design.

San Diego Comic Con is on July 12-15 in California and Disney has announced several Vinylmation releases spread through out the event. According to the Vinylmation blog, they will be available for purchase online. (But we assume they will also be at the event)

	July 11 Comic Con Boy and Girl Two 3" Combo LE 2000 $34.95 A part of the Comic Con celebration Disney is releasing this two pack set of two kids dressed up in costumes (much like what many of the people who attend the event do). I like the girl's use of a accessories, both a cape and glasses. Very cool.
	The boy is a little more Robin themed. he's got a mask and a little hat. He's got the costume and a utility belt (which just happens to hold vinylmation). This is a great set, although we had hoped this might have been the introduction of Marvel by having the kids dress up as Marvel characters.
	July 12 Pixar's Up Young Carl and Ellie Two 3" Combo LE 2000 $26.95 Amazing. Spot on. Perfect use of ears. Grape Soda cap!!!
	July 13 Park Starz Squid Variant LE 1954 $24.95 We first saw this as part of Thomas Scott's John Carter vinylmation interview video on 3/7/12. This will be the fourth variant to the Park Starz 1 series, I love the color. Prefect.
	July 14 Alice in Wonderland Queen and King 3" and Jr Combo LE 2500 $24.95 Inspired by the the size difference of the King and Queen, this set will portray the Queen at a full 3 inches and the King in a mini Junior. This will be the third Queen of Hearts 3". The first one was with the Alice set and the second will be in the Villains 3 set.
	July 15 Popcorns Mickey Mouse Pie Eye Variant LE 5000 $24.95 In celebration of the upcoming Popcorns series, Disney is releasing a black and white variant of the Mickey design. (Similar to Funko's Metal Mickey from Comic Con last year)

Carl and Ellie

Disney has released an image of the Carl and Ellie Up combo set that will be released at Comic Con and online on July 12 for $26.95. It is an LE 2000

This looks like a perfect representation of the two kids who we meet early in the Pixar movie Up. It is one of my favorite movies of all-time and although we only know these characters for a short while, they are two of my favorites. The use of ears is fantastic. Check out Comic-Con Explained for the rest of the lineup.

Comic Con Girl and Boy Revealed

Disney just showed us a picture of the Comic Con girl and boy. Just as we had predicted on the podcast, it's a girl and a boy dressed up in costumes. The costumes are generic vinylmation themed costumes (not Marvel or Disney as we had hoped), but I still think they look great. The boy is a masked adventurer with a utility belt full of vinylmation. The girl has both a cape AND glasses.

Comic Con Vinylmation Announced

First look at Popcorns Vinylmation Variant

Update: 6/27/12 Box added.

 

Over at the vinylmation Facebook page they just posted a first look at a figure from the Popcorns Vinylmation line. As we found out last week, they will be selling a special variant from the Popcorns line at Comic-Con next month. Today we got a first look at the full figure of Mickey. It's black and white AND pie-eyed, so this is the variant they will be selling at Comic-Con. What do you think? Do you like this series?

Update: 6/27/12 Today Disney put up a picture of the box that the Popcorns series will come in. If anything, it helps explain the name. It really does look like a popcorn box. What do you think?

Update 5/25/12 A ton of updates that clear up some of the size, price and other oddities we saw with the first post from Disney. We knew something was weird about much of the info Disney gave us, and almost all of it has been changed.... so take a look.

When I heard the rumor, I was hoping we would see them in kid versions... and that will seems to be the case. What about you? Would you rather have the kids or an older version?

We will also see a Alice in Wonderland, Queen and King, 9-inch and 3-inch set. LE 2000, $ 24.95. Um... is this a gift or a misprint? Heck of a price for 9/3 combo Disney. The sizes make perfect sense and with it being a 3/Jr and not a 9/3, it keeps the price down nice and affordable.

Lastly, we will finally see what Popcorns is all about. The Events page is calling this one a Mickey Mouse Variant, 9-inch and 3-inch set. LE 2000, retail $24.95. I'm leaning toward another typo, but who knows... we really don't know what Popcorns are yet. But based on what we do know, this combo seem odd. I'm excited about the debut of Popcorn, but more for it being a new series, then me being personally into it. Disney is betting on a ton of people flocking to this new product with an LE 5000.

Is it just me, or are we all in for a few sleepless nights in July?

Disney Pop! Vinyl Series 2

Comic-Con was this weekend in San Diego, CA. Funko, who makes Pop! Vinyl figures, had a selection of special LE Disney Pop! Vinyls for sale. Our friend Daniel was at the event. Here is his account.

"All of these were sold out by end of day Friday, except Mr. Incredible."

Here are the 9" Buzz and Maleficent. "They had more on top of the booth. Maleficent was flying off the shelves!"
